Wally Lopez - DJ OJ 03 Album Review

The third installment in the GU DJ series comes from the hands of Spanish DJ/producer Wally Lopez, known for having delivered a fine batch of beefy house cuts in his time. Can his delivery match the quality of the past two editions? Here's what we think...

The GU DJ series managed to partially revive the image of Global Underground as a leading label. Because let's face it, the once legendary imprint had been churning out a couple of crappy releases until Nic Children sank the first edition of tasty new series. By signing for the third edition of the most sought after product to be exported from Spain (after Quarry), Wally Lopez, who was on top of the world house scene for a respectable two decades. Its electronic percussive sounds he has a worldwide symbol of Madonna herself has shared the stage with the likes of Dubfire, Danny Tenaglia, David Guetta. In other words, trust in rowing a drift of this issue in DJ OJseries.

The first disc kicks of with a Mihalis Safras remix of Mistress Barbara's Dance Me To The End Of Love, a solid summer tune with some solid percussive that elegantly blends with the Stimming remix of Come Closer by Robert Babicz. The first half of the CD soon enough reveals its techy nature, revolving pretty much around percussion and bass and slowly building to a more housy feel. The next highlight comes in the form of Superfunk Feat. Ron Carroll's Lucky Star, in the Kolombo 2010 Unreleased Remix.

The laidback version Kolombo made this to be is an absolute summer time slammer, expect this one at some beach party extravaganza. It fits perfectly in the blend of tracks Wally Lopez has going and it sets the starting point for the rest of the CD with more vocals then the first part. Paolo Martini & Paul C's Groove Machine is the next highlight track I would like to point out. I absolutely love the bounciness of this track. A propelling bass line accompanied by some proper percussion and a thriving synth which is an almost hypnotizing combination. After this 9th track the CD propels toward the end, without getting boring or repetitive. The convincing combination of drums, bass, cut up vocals and Balearic sounds remain in place and proves to be a working formula to bring you in the party vibe.

The second disc starts off with a Kolombo remix of Zoo Brazil's For A Friend, a combination of steady bass lines, some nice wobbly sounds and a damn catchy Groove. Again, this compilation gives you a feeling of summer and makes me want to pack your things and the beach. The highlight of this CD are just Wally Dig It in the Mix by Stefano Noferini and sounding epic run by Florian Meindl remix. Overall, however, is a bit 'too much like the first, and I would not recommend listening to both CDs in one go.

Overall DJ is the last episode of the series Global Underground is a decent delivery. Wally Lopezcompiled and mixed a nice selection of tunes into a groovy blend of house and tech-house. Don't expect an brilliant mix compilation with tracks cut up beyond recognition because you be disappointed. Not as brilliant as the previous two editions, but still worth checking out.
