The #1 tool for a DJ is the DJ Music List. After all, what is a DJ without music? And more to the point... what is a DJ without the RIGHT music?
Even the worlds best DJ equipment will be totally worthless without the right music to play for the audience. Building skills in "reading crowds" and knowing what to play and when to play it can take years of experience to get it right. Many people think this is an overstatement, hey... how hard can it be to just stand there and play music right?
Yes, it can look very easy. And a good DJ makes it look easy. He or she plays the tunes that keep people dancing (or chilling etc... depending on the venue / event). But have you ever been to an event or venue with a bad DJ? Hopefully for your sake you haven't! But if you have, you will know exactly what I am talking about. It is the venue where nobody is dancing, everyone is complaining about the music and it is probably pretty empty as everyone looks for somewhere better to go.
Notice that nobody would have been complaining about the DJ's equipment? No, they complain about the MUSIC! It is the MUSIC that makes or breaks a DJ. The DJ music list is absolutely KEY to success.
Forget buying all the expensive DJ equipment, get you music library sorted out FIRST! Think about it, people don't listen to equipment, they listen to music. You can have the newest, shiny equipment with tons of lights and buttons but 99% of people don't care! They just want to listen to music!
